Meet our Specialist: Brett Nelson

Fluid System Sales Specialist

1. What does it mean to be a Baldwin Supply Specialist?
By definition, a specialist should possess a deeper knowledge of their area of expertise. To utilize that knowledge by providing answers to several questions in several areas, such as: Who should I call? Why did this failure occur? How might I prevent this problem from happening in the future? How can we save on our operating costs? Are we able to cross our part over to another brand? A specialist represents the company on a larger stage. Specialists are liaisons between manufacturers and BSC, as well as the sales representatives.

2. What unique role do you fill at Baldwin? What is your area of expertise?
I am the Fluid Power and Process Pump Specialist. Most of my personal experience is in the fluid power industry, however, the past 2-3 years have been spent more time on the process side.

3. When did you join the Baldwin Supply team? How many years of experience do you have?
I started with Baldwin Supply in March of 2024. I have 33 years of experience in the fluid power field, doing everything from Purchasing to Inside Sales, system design, assembly, and R&D testing. On the Process Equipment side, I have only been working in this area for about 6 years.

4. What types of relevant training have you completed to further help you in your current role?
I started my Fluid Power education right after high school when I attended Granite Falls Technical College for Fluid Power. After graduation is when the learning really began. For most, I would consider on-the-job training, but I have taken several specific individual manufacturer training courses for both Fluid Power and Process.

5. What led you to this career?
My interest in hydraulics and a desire to learn something that I didn’t know or fully understand prior to going to school for it. I like to troubleshoot problems and offer solutions.

6. Who influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
My father influenced me the most growing up on the family farm. The work on the farm is never done and when the clock hits 5:00, that means the day is only half over. Work hard and be honest and the rest will come.

7. What personality trait do you most attribute your success to and why?
Honesty and integrity. Work hard and communicate well with others. Don’t be afraid to learn something new, even if it scares you.

8. What do you enjoy most about working at Baldwin Supply?
There are several answers I could give, but the top of the list is how well everyone has received me. This is a team effort, and I need help at times too. This team is always willing to take the time to share their knowledge with others. Relationships are valued and to be protected.

9. What is a work-related accomplishment that you are really proud of?
I would have to say getting all the suppliers for the product groups we are now selling into, has been very satisfying for me. When I have a sales rep contact me with a need and I am able to respond with a solution that results in a new order (large or small), is also very satisfying for me.
